94-81-2392546The Department of Information Technology is the newest department within the Faculty of Arts. It was established on August 25th, 2022, through the gazette notification (2294/48). With its addition, the department became the 19th department within the Faculty. The primary goal of the department is to enhance the IT literacy and competency of undergraduate students in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The department will offer an IT diploma program for undergraduate students with the collaboration of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Sri Lanka Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM).

The Informatics Institute of Technology has arranged an INTER UNIVERSITY COMPETITION. The competition is an exceptional platform designed to nurture the creative minds of School Children and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions. By participating in this competition, students will have the chance to interact with like-minded individuals, industry experts, enriching their learning experience beyond the classroom. The Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Arts has decided to represent the project. If anyone is interested, this competition is open for all the students in the Faculty of Arts. Students will be selected through an interview.

The School Web Development Programme – Vol. 03 was successfully held on 29th October at Computer Lab 03, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya. The event was organized by the Society of Information Technology and Humanities Students (SITHS) under the guidance of the Department of Information Technology. The programme aimed to enhance web development skills among school students and inspire them to explore the world of technology and innovation. The session was conducted by Mr. Pramitha Weerasekara, with the Head of the Department, Prof. Sakunthala, sharing her valuable thoughts and encouragement at the opening ceremony. Students from St. Sylvester’s College, Swarnamali Girls’ College, and Pilimathalawa Central College enthusiastically participated in the session.
